Israel on Monday called on citizens vacationing in Egypt's Sinai peninsula to immediately leave the area because of kidnapping threats. According to the AP, the prime minister's counterterrorism office issued a statement calling on Israelis to come home right away.
It said "there are immediate and concrete threats" by militants to abduct Israelis and smuggle them into the neighboring Gaza Strip.
Israel issued a similar travel warning a few weeks ago over alleged attempts by the Lebanese group Hizbullah to kidnap Israelis abroad. On Monday, the bureau also warned that "the involvement of the Hizbullah in terror activity raises the alert level" in regard to the advisory currently in place against traveling to Sinai.
